Zeus is very much the elder statesman here but could remain fit and well on his medication, for several years to come. Given his new lease of life that would be no surprise!
We would always like to be in a position to respond at terribly sad times just like this one, in order to help, no matter what the circumstances. Your monthly gift means we will be able to continue to do just that. Please sponsor Zeus if you can – and thank you!
The story so far...
Zeus came to us to retire recently (September 2023), following the very sad death of our wonderful Chair and Founding Trustee, Claire Robinson.
She would never admit to favourites but Zeus was undeniably special and had been with Claire for the greater part of his life.
Prior to her ownership, he had an illustrious career taking several young people to the Pony Club Championships with great success.
In his youth Zeus was a keen follower of hounds and excelled in WHP classes at local shows.
He could literally turn a hoof to anything asked of him and in later years he ticked even more boxes, qualifying with several different jockeys, for the RDA Championships.
Typical of most greys, he had a sense of humour and could always be relied upon to be dirtier on the morning of a show than before he had been bathed the night before!
At 26 years of age, we are happy to report that Zeus has taken to retirement with us incredibly well and is thriving – in fact one of his old admirers failed to recognise him in the field recently!
Although he does have Cushing’s disease, it is well managed with a pill a day and we expect him to be part of our HQ herd for some time to come.

The little harem of mares he has gathered since his arrival.

Male field mates who threaten his ‘main man’ status – and pigs!
