Offer a home
Keeping a horse or pony is a huge, life changing responsibility.
At Here4Horses we firmly believe the decision should not be taken lightly.
When the founding trustees set out on the road to launching this charity, one decision in particular was unanimous. Any horse or pony taken into our care would remain in the ownership of Here4Horses, for all of its life.
We therefore look for likeminded carers, who understand our desire to secure a good future for our animals, some of which have suffered immeasurably. We seek to establish long term relationships, which ultimately enhance both the lives of our horses and ponies, as well as the people who look after them for us.
Our Foster Ponies are often youngsters needing time to grow and mature, prior to returning to us for further training and education. These can be foals to four year olds, capable of being a wonderful asset to those with their own horse, needing a safe companion or a playmate. We also have some horses and ponies with issues which prevent them from being ridden or driven, making them suitable as companions only.
Alternatively, our Loanie Pony Scheme (which includes horses too) offers a unique opportunity for those wishing to ride – or drive.
We currently only have occasional horses in residence, as the majority of our intake are under 13.2hh and therefore suitable for children and small adults only. All of our horses and ponies have been trained by us and are potential perfect partners for both happy hackers or future stars.
We happily leave our Loanie Ponies in your care for as long as you desire.
If or when the time comes for them to return to us (perhaps once they are outgrown or circumstances change), they return to us once again, waiting for the next lucky person to take their reins.
Our horses and ponies are very special to us – and although they always remain ultimately our responsibility, we know that a perfect loan or foster home can offer them the greatest, long-term connection with humans both young and …not so!
We have however, some fundamental rules in place when it comes to the rehoming of our rescued horses and ponies; all to ensure they live their best life.
Some of our applicants can be disappointed – but we hope the vast majority of people will understand our desire to provide the best possible lifestyle for our residents as they move on to pastures new.
We therefore thought it would be helpful for new applicants to consider the checklist below.
