As if Laminitis isn’t enough for us to worry about during the spring – it seems, these days, it’s not too early for Habronema, also known as’ Summer Sores’, here in the UK.
The mild winters and warmer spring weather, has begun to trigger early fly activity and we now see signs of trouble – never seen so early in the year before.
Watch out for the mainly circular, non-healing sores or raw, swollen skin lesions around the moist eye corners and mouth.
As you can see above, on poor Eddie’s face, the lesion near his lips and also the chapped skin at his nostril too, caused by the inflammatory response from his body.
Treatment involves dosing with Ivermectin (Moxidectin is much too precious for this) – it’s well worth a chat with your Vet if you see trouble.
