It turns out there is nothing quite like an image of a huge Shire or Clydesdale, or a dinky Donkey, to capture the hearts of any horse welfare enthusiast.
Well… unfortunately our ever-growing collection of ‘Mini Marvels’ would certainly disagree with this sentiment.
These wee cuties, definitely eat less and create less poop (which is very helpful) but the potential hazards to their health are many and they need careful, knowledgeable care to avoid serious illness.
Shetlands are notoriously long-lived and several members of our resident herd, are now in their 30’s. Advanced age brings added challenges; Cushings Disease for instance, is common and the effective medication doesn’t come cheap.
So, maybe you are planning to give to a horse charity in 2026 (and we sincerely hope you can)?
