Hilda B

Hilda B’s name is a play on the late, great comedian Hylda Baker and she is unusual in several ways.

She is female for starters, when normally it is colts that we find abandoned. Hilda is also black rather than coloured, which again is quite a rarity in these parts.

We picked up Hilda in 2018 as an abandonment case for Durham County Council, she was lean and louse-ridden and despite our best efforts, no owner came forward to claim her.

Hilda turned out to be a very sweet pony and not ‘mareish’ at all. Mareish is a horsey term to describe some mares who can be temperamental and prone to moodiness, often linked to the effect of hormones.

She is placid, keeps herself out of trouble and prefers a quiet life in the company of people.

Hilda was found a wonderful foster placement with a lovely man called Peter, who gave her lots of TLC and started her training in harness.

She proved to be a natural at carriage driving and Peter was distraught when he found himself unable to care for her in the way he knew she needed and she returned to us.

We then started Hilda under saddle which was not so natural for her but in time she was well prepared and ready for our Loanie Pony Scheme.

Our first attempt at a match, proved too overwhelming for her and sadly the second attempt had a similar outcome.

She will remain here in training until such time that we identify her perfect partner.
